With each in home lifestyle newborn session that I do, I fall more and more in love. There is just something so special about capturing a new little one where he is most comfortable...at home, surrounding by people that adore him. This is where he will take his first steps, where he will run around being chased by his sister, where he will do his homework at the kitchen table and possibly where he will have his high school graduation party. Capturing these first few days or weeks at home is laying a foundation to the many moments and memories that will make up this little one's life. Often it is a time of transition, whether it is smooth or a little more rough, there is beauty to be found in this milestone, of welcoming a new child to your family.
Lifestyle newborn photography is not about a perfectly posed new baby sound asleep in a cute basket. Instead it is about feeling all the emotion that a new child brings. Closeness, intimacy, protection, love, joy, bliss, sibling adoration, adjustment, comfort, confusion, trust, instinct - these are the feelings I want to capture in my newborn images.
Baby Christian's session was perfect. Not perfect in that he never cried or there wasn't a toddler meltdown. But perfect in that I got to record this small sliver of time where everyone is still getting to know each other, but love has taken root. Going from one child to two is never easy, but this family is handling it with grace and gentleness. Big sister is totally in love with her new brother, and Mom and Dad are totally in love with their new family. I consider it a true privilege to be able to document this delicate and fleeting time.
